Inuit Nunangat Housing Strategy

The Inuit Nunangat Housing Strategy has been co-developed with Inuit partners, including Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and endorsed by Inuit leaders and Government of Canada Ministers at the Inuit-Crown Partnership Committee on November 29, 2018.

With a view to closing the Inuit Nunangat housing gap, the strategy will provide direction for recent Government of Canada investments in Inuit housing that were announced in Budget 2018 for $400 million over 10 years for the 3 Inuit Nunangat regions of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (Northwest Territories), Nunavik (Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (Northwest Territories). This includes collaborating with Inuit partners to develop an Inuit housing grant mechanism to flow funding to Inuit land claim organizations and governments.

Budget 2018 investments are in addition to the $240 million over 10 years announced in Budget 2017 to support housing in Nunavut, where additional funding was provided for Inuit housing.
