1. Review community eligibility criteria to ensure that it reflects NNC program objectives. Recommendations on community eligibility based on NNC program objectives will be developed. Key NC governance bodies (Advisory Board and Oversight Committee) and partners such as Health Canada will be consulted. March 2014

Status: Completed – Closed

A review of community eligibility criteria has been conducted and the definition of an eligible community has been determined. Additional work is required to assess the proposed criteria and how it will be applied.

Additional work is being undertaken to develop community profiles that include all 133 communities eligible for the former Food Mail program and other reserve communities. Profiles will include information on population, access to supply centers, cost of food and seasonal transportation links and costs. This community analysis will assist the program in identifying other communities that may meet the eligibility criteria.

Input from the Advisory Board will be sought at its next meeting, planned for Fall 2014. Other partners will also be consulted as needed.

Update/Rationale:
As of 30/06/2014:

  • An internal evaluation report (September 2013) recommended a review of community eligibility criteria to ensure that it reflects program objectives.
