Arctic Science and Technology Information System: Hydrocarbon Impacts Database

The Arctic Science and Technology Information System (ASTIS), hosted by Arctic Institute of North America at the University of Calgary, maintains an extensive database of publications related to northern science and hydrocarbon impact that is regularly updated. References to over 70,000 documents can be found on the ASTIS website in either electronic or hard copy formats.

The Hydrocarbon Impacts database is particularly relevant to oil and gas activities in the North. It was created for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada in 2001 and currently describes over 6700 publications and research projects on the environmental impacts, socio-economic effects and regulation of hydrocarbon exploration, development and transportation in northern Canada. The database is freely available online from a bilingual website.

ArcticNet

ArcticNet is a Network of Centres of Excellence of Canada   with 150 researchers from 30 Canadian universities, 8 federal and 11 provincial agencies and departments. They collaborate with Inuit organizations, northern communities and industry, as well as with research teams in Denmark, Finland, France, Greenland, Japan, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the USA to study human health, social and environmental issues in the Arctic. ArcticNet's work informs our understanding of northern ecosystems and the impacts and opportunities of climate change and globalization in the Arctic.

Beaufort Sea Integrated Ocean Management Plan (IOMP)

The Integrated Ocean Management Plan for the Beaufort Sea was developed in 2009 to formalize a common vision for the Beaufort Sea Large Ocean Management Area. The plan builds on the knowledge of initiatives such as BSStRPA and Inuvialuit Community Conservation Plans. It incorporates social, cultural economic and ecosystem values expressed by communities, and tackles issues related to onshore and offshore petroleum exploration. It represents an inclusive method of managing ocean resources and spaces, intended to facilitate effective ocean management.

Petroleum and Environmental Management Tool

The Petroleum and Environmental Management Tool (PEMT) was developed by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. The PEMT is a geo-referenced database that contains information on a number of environmental and socio-economic indicators.

Polar Data Catalogue

The Polar Data Catalogue is a georeferenced database that indexes, describes, and provides access to data and metadata from the Arctic and Antarctic on a range of topics including natural sciences, policy, health and social sciences.
